Research
Excellence in clinical care stems from advances in understanding the fundamental basis for abnormalities of the nervous system and the resulting development of new and more effective treatment strategies for nervous system disorders. For this reason, research remains an integral part of the Department of Neurology. Members of the faculty in Neurology have a broad range of research interests that span the areas of molecular biology, electrophysiology, biophysics, pharmacology, molecular genetics, immunopathology, neurotransplantation and computational neuroscience as pertaining to nervous system disorders.
The Department is highly committed to translation of basic research findings to the clinical domain and actively promotes productive interactions between clinicians and basic scientists, and provides resources for collaborative translational studies. Members of the faculty include world-renowned leaders in their fields of research who continue significantly to enhance the understanding of the nervous system and its disorders.

The increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases throughout the world means that almost all of us have loved ones who are either patients or bear the burden of care for afflicted individuals. Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Frontotemporal Dementia, and other degenerative diseases each present patients with the challenge of chronic illness and complications.Read MoreNeuro-Immunology - Multiple Sclerosis Center
Under the guidance of world-renowned MS clinician-scientist, David Hafler, MD, Division Chief of Neuro-Immunology, the Yale Multiple Sclerosis Center provides state-of-the-art treatment for patients with MS and related diseases, and engages in basic research and clinical trials to advance both the understanding of the disorder and continually improve treatment options.Read MoreYale MDA-ALS/Motor Neuron Disease Clinic
The Yale MDA-ALS/Motor Neuron Disease Clinic evaluates and treats patients with neurologic disorders affecting the motor neuron. Our clinic is designed to help patients navigate through the difficult process of understanding motor neuron disease and managing the different stages of the condition. We provide initial evaluations as well as second opinions regarding the diagnosis.Neuro-Oncology - Brain Tumor Center
The Division of Neuro-Oncology, as part of Yale Brain Tumor Center, puts together all of the components critical to managing patients with primary brain tumors, metastases, and neurologic complications of cancer: comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis, leading edge treatment options, thorough follow-up and psychosocial support.
