The Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN) QI Writing Group provides a structured and mentored manuscript preparation experience for those looking to share their QI outcomes. Applicants should have a current or past project with results ready to publish, such as a project that has reached its goal, a project with a change in a process or outcome measure, a project with an important lesson learned, or a project with a unique intervention. The QIWG transforms projects into journal-ready manuscripts in 10 virtual sessions over 20 weeks. Sharing local work provides the opportunity to improve patient care at a larger scale by spreading successes and challenges, allowing for rapid cycle improvement and potentially avoiding duplication of failures. The fall 2025 cohort is open to applicants from any PPN Hub or affiliate site and will start August 15, 2025.

The Yale Pediatrics Department’s Award for Clinical Excellence (Yale Peds-ACE) recognizes exemplary clinicians who go above and beyond for patients, deliver the highest quality of care, and personify healing, innovation, and collaboration. We are honored to share that Ahmed Veten, MD, is the recipient of the Yale Peds-ACE Award for the month of April 2025!
Dr. Veten stands out as the only attending in our unit who is dual trained in both pediatric critical care and pediatric cardiac intensive care. This rare combination allows him to seamlessly care for patients across the PICU and PCICU, fostering stronger clinical continuity and bridging cultural gaps between the two teams. He is a consistently strong bedside clinician who is highly regarded for his thoughtful, compassionate, and evidence-based care. His attentiveness to feedback from colleagues and the interdisciplinary team makes him a trusted and collaborative team member. He is also highly respected by both the pediatric cardiologists and the cardiac surgeons for his clinical acumen and collaborative approach to complex cases.
Dr. Veten is also widely appreciated by our trainees for his accessible teaching style and mentorship. Comments from residents and fellows describe him as “always approachable” and “an excellent educator,” with one trainee noting, “I always learn something new from him. I enjoy his cardiac lectures and hope he does more!” His combination of clinical skill, innovation in systems improvement, and commitment to education make him a truly deserving nominee for the ACE award. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Veten on this award!

Many parents and caregivers of the chronically sick children for whom we provide care have concerns about immigration enforcement and the impact it may have upon the health and wellbeing of their children. As pediatric providers, we hope to ensure that all sick children receive the uninterrupted care that they need. With that in mind, we want to share the following resources:
We hope these resources will be useful in the care of the sick children under the medical supervision of the Yale Pediatrics community.

Activities included things like networking bingo, a promotions panel featuring five of our newly promoted faculty (Drs. Jaspreet Loyal, Kathleen Corbin, Ric Pierce, Matt Grossman, and Michelle Van Name), and a fun "marshmallow challenge". Thanks to everyone who organized and attended!

The extended reality (XR) revolution has ushered in the adoption of head-mounted displays (HMDs), including among children. While well-studied clinical uses of XR hold promise for positive outcomes in pain management, behavioral change, and social connection, unsupervised use and improper implementation of immersive technologies in young populations raise significant concerns.
