Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds: Buprenorphine 2024

The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine is pleased to welcome Thomas Hickey, MD, as speaker for Addiction Medicine Rounds on November 28, 2023.

This event will be held in a virtual format.


Title: Buprenorphine 2024

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand buprenorphine’s unique pharmacology and safety profile
  2. Consider the challenge of acute pain management and evidence for buprenorphine in this role
  3. Review approaches in perioperative buprenorphine management

Dr. Hickey is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of the PACU in the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Dr. Hickey received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 2011. He joined the Yale School of Medicine faculty in 2015 after completing his residency in Anesthesiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is board certified in anesthesiology and addiction medicine. His diverse interests include preoperative evaluation, regional anesthesia, acute postoperative pain, perioperative management of medication for opioid use disorder, and buprenorphine.


Addiction Medicine Rounds are CME accredited. Each session will be assigned 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
