- Mulago National Referral Hospital and Kiruddu General Referral Hospital, both in Kampala, one hour from Entebbe Airport
- Affiliated with Makerere University College of Health Sciences
- 1800 beds and 200 beds (often at double capacity)
Disease Spectrum
- Broad range of communicable and noncommunicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria and tropical medicine
Clinical Responsibilities
- Inpatient
- Outpatient
- ER
- Community outreach/home visits
- Present lectures/training/bedside teaching
- No night or weekend calls
- Research is not a focus for this clinical care rotation
Residents accepted from:
- Internal Medicine
- Emergency Medicine
- Pediatrics
Length of Rotation
- Minimum of six weeks, including travel from US
Logistics
- Reimbursement Award amount: $3500
- On campus housing is provided at a subsidized rate
- Language requirements: English spoken throughout Uganda, basic Luganda lessons provided on site to all Scholars
- Required paperwork: Ugandan visa, Ugandan Medical License
- Six 6 week rotations blocks are available; for the weeks starting mid August, end of September, beginning of November and mid January, the end of February and the beginning of April. You could refer to your availability for these dates on the application form
- Due to the capacity-building efforts of the Makerere University/Yale University collaboration, there are many coordinated opportunities to experience more of Uganda through outreach opportunities at partner institutions
