James Knight, PhD
Research Scientist in Genetics
As director of YCGA’s Bioinformatics Core, James Knight has over 33 years of experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. After his Ph.D. and post-doctoral work, he served a lead bioinformatician at the genomics companies CuraGen Corporation and 454 Life Sciences. At 454 Life Sciences, the first company to commercialize next-generation sequencing (NGS), he was the lead author of the Newbler assembler and a lead in the development of 454’s bioinformatics software. Joining Yale in 2014, he and his group provide NGS analysis services across the Yale community, covering all sequencing technologies and analysis applications.
