Overview
Kenneth W. Donohue, MD, MS, is an expert in complex shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand surgery who specializes in shoulder replacement as well as arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures. He is one of only a few orthopaedic surgeons in the country who are fellowship trained in both hand surgery, and shoulder and elbow surgery.
“Orthopaedic surgery allows me to have an immediate impact on a patient’s quality of life,” Dr. Donohue says. “I consider every injury or musculoskeletal disorder in the context of each individual patient as well as their specific needs and functional goals.”
Dr. Donohue has authored multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles on topics ranging from hand surgery to patient-specific shoulder replacement. His research has been presented nationally and internationally at the meetings of such organizations as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association for Hand Surgery.
Like many of his colleagues, Dr. Donohue recommends that his patients consider non-surgical options before deciding on a treatment plan. When he must perform surgery, he stays engaged after the operation to monitor the patient's progress through the recovery phase, Dr. Donohue emphasizes that teamwork between the surgeon, the physical therapist, and the patient is the most important factor for success.
Dr. Donohue is an assistant professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine.
