The 2023 Department of Internal Medicine Fellow of the Year award was presented to Maxwell D. Eder, MD, a clinical fellow in the Section of Cardiovascular Medicine. Recipients are nominated by residents for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence in teaching.
Eder holds a medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following medical school, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital where he was awarded the 2019 Samuel D. Kushlan, M.D. Award.
While at Yale, Eder served on the Yale Internal Medicine Inpatient Education Committee, the Yale Internal Medicine Point of Care Ultrasound Committee, documented the likelihood of COVID-19 infection contributing to an increased risk of cardiovascular complications as a member of the Yale COVID-19 Cardiovascular Registry, and published an evaluation of current guidelines for prosthetic valve endocarditis.
His clinical interests include general non-invasive cardiology, valvular heart disease, echocardiography, and atrial arrhythmias. Following completion of his fellowship he plans to pursue a career in clinical general non-invasive cardiology.
