About YCCI

The Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) provides critical infrastructure and training in clinical and translational research to members of the Yale University community. The overarching goal of the center is to enable Yale University investigators to conduct effective, innovative, efficient, and safe clinical research protocols that ultimately improve health outcomes for all members of society.

Successful execution of the center’s activities requires a team effort involving partnerships among investigators from different disciplines and regions, members of our community, and sponsors of clinical and translational research such as the National Institutes of Health, industry, private foundations, and individuals.

YCCI is the administrative home for the Yale Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) and serves as a highly integrated research and training hub for clinical and translational science at Yale University. YCCI’s responsibilities encompass faculty, trainees, and staff at Yale School of Medicine, Yale School of Nursing, Yale School of Public Health, Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science, Yale Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Yale Law School, Yale New Haven Health System, Veterans Administration Connecticut Healthcare System, and multiple community partners across Connecticut and surrounding areas, as well as with national and CTSA Consortium partners.

Our Mission

The mission of YCCI is to train outstanding clinical and translational scientists and to provide infrastructure for effective, efficient, and innovative clinical research that improves health outcomes for all members of society.

Specifically, we seek to:

  • Accelerate the evaluation and implementation of disease-related discoveries into new interventions to prevent, diagnose, and treat human disease
  • Through a series of diverse and durable local and national community partnerships, co-develop clinical research priorities and approaches that result in improved health outcomes for all members of society
  • Foster the science of translational research to enhance the feasibility, effectiveness, safety, and generalizability of clinical investigation
  • Continuously collaborate with other investigators, including other CTSA hubs, to develop innovative research approaches, especially new technologies and information systems, to expand the impact of clinical research
  • Inspire and enable students, trainees, and junior faculty members from the Yale University community to succeed in clinical and translational research careers
  • Facilitate the success and integration of clinical research in Yale New Haven Health and Yale University centers and departments
  • Create a respectful, inspiring, and innovative organizational culture for staff, faculty, and trainees that is inclusive and respectful of all individuals and that continuously improves the quality of the center’s services to the faculty, trainees, and staff of Yale University.

Collaborations & Partnerships

The Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) has relationships through a network of individuals and organizations seeking to promote the discovery of interventions to improve health outcomes. These include over 100 community organizations, patient and clinician organizations, clinical practices, academic health centers, industry partners, and universities. These relationships impact a wide range of the operations and initiatives of YCCI.

YCCI as a CTSA hub

The Yale CTSA hub in YCCI has been a leader, with other consortium partners, in accelerating the translation of discovery to practice by overcoming barriers that limit scientific advances and their dissemination and implementation. Together with other institutions, CTSAs, and community partners, the Yale hub emphasizes novel community engagement strategies, innovation in research methods, use of ethically informed technology and data sciences, and continuously updated competency-based educational programs to enhance the impact and generalizability of clinical and translational research.

History of YCCI

Since launching in 2006, YCCI has made significant contributions to the coordination, efficiency, and dissemination of clinical research, but the impact of clinical research at Yale goes back to 1896.
