    Biography

    Dr. Wang is an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Internal Medicine, core faculty at the Equity Research and Innovation Center and SEICHE Center for Health and Justice. She is secondary faculty in YSM Biomedical Informatics & Data Science and Yale School of Public Health, Health Informatics. Her work is at the intersection of health equity, informatics, and data justice with a focus in optimizing health and health-related information, data, and technology for communities that have been marginalized. Her research goal is to improve the health of communities that have been marginalized by engaging them in the collection and use of health data and improving the quality of social and structural determinants of health data, such as race, ethnicity, and residential address.

    She leverages a participatory approach to center communities in the design, collection, (re-) use of their health data; understand communities' information and technology needs, improve information resources, and accelerate the dissemination of useful data back to communities, from electronic health record data to research study data.

    Overview

    Karen Wang, MD, is an internal medicine specialist who focuses on general medical care and the intersection of health equity and informatics. She works on enhancing health-related information and data collection to benefit marginalized communities. She uses a participatory approach, engaging these communities and gathering health data to address social factors such as race, ethnicity, and residential location that impact health outcomes. Her aim is to improve health data quality and dissemination, making data more accessible and useful to these communities.

    As an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Wang conducts research to improve data justice and equity.

    Dr. Wang received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by fellowships with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program and the Yale/VA Connecticut Healthcare System.
