    Overview

For the past six years, Dr. Suyavaran has been actively engaged in investigating molecular pathways underlying hepatic inflammation and fibrosis. During his postdoctoral training in Dr. Wajahat Mehal’s laboratory within the Section of Digestive Diseases at Yale School of Medicine, he focused on several key areas of liver pathobiology. His research included:

    1. Identifying novel mechanisms of hepatic stellate cell activation mediated by mitochondrial DNA release and subsequent cGAS-STING pathway activation.
    2. Characterizing the subcellular machinery in macrophages influenced by inflammasome stimuli, with particular emphasis on the sequential orchestration of the NLRP3 inflammasome complex.

Dr. Suyavaran contributed to studies evaluating the therapeutic potential of novel STING inhibitors in murine models of liver fibrosis, demonstrating significant protection and reversal in both CCL4- and NASH diet–induced fibrosis. His current work explores cell-cell interaction, and the role of mitochondrial dynamics in hepatic stellate cell activation and its underlying molecular drivers.
