INTERNATIONAL LEADERS IN RESEARCH AND ADVANCED EDUCATION
• Head and Neck Program Project (P01) and SPORE (P50) Grants: Yale has secured multi-million dollars in NIH grant funding to conduct innovative head and neck cancer research.
• NCI Early Detection Research Network: We co-lead the early H&N cancer detection efforts of the NIH and have an oral pre-malignancy clinic for screening and management.
• Advanced H&N Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship: Since 2014, we have been training domestic and international physicians to be leaders in our field.
ADVANCED SKILLS AND A TEAM APPROACH TO CANCER CARE
• High Volume, High Quality HPV+ Cancer Care: We use a multi-disciplinary team approach to personalize the care for this growing cancer population. Our goal is to minimize the extent of treatment and therefore long-term side effects for patients.
• We utilize the latest technology and techniques to minimize treatment side effects, including:
– Single Port Da Vinci (only in Connecticut, first in New England)
– Circulating tumor HPV DNA testing
– Transoral Laser Surgery
– Salivary Endoscopy
– 3D-virtual surgical reconstructive planning
– Upfront dental implants and sensory nerve reconstruction
– Sentinel lymph node biopsy for skin and early stage oral cancer
– Minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery
– Molecular testing for thyroid and head and neck cancers
– A collaborative team approach to provide the highest quality of patient care which optimizes survival, function, and quality of life
• Nurse Coordinators: assigned to the patient immediately upon referral. Acts as a direct contact point throughout their cancer journey.
• A Facial Paralysis Center: multidisciplinary approach to management of the paralyzed face with state of the art dynamic and static reanimation surgery expertise.
• A Dedicated H&N Team: A collaborative team approach to provide the highest quality of patient care which optimizes survival, function, and quality of life. We have neuroradiology, H&N pathology, endocrine oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, oral surgery, and prosthetics. Also, support services such as SLP, nutrition, physical therapy, social work, palliative care, survivorship, and more.
• Community Outreach And Giving Back: each year, we offer free screening and educate hundreds of members of the Connecticut community on the risks and early signs of H&N cancer.
