    Biography

    Philippos A. Costa, M.D., is an Oncologist at Yale University. He received his medical degree from the Universiade Federal do Vale do Sao Francisco, Brazil, and completed two internal medicine residencies; at the Universidade Federal de Uberlandia and at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and his fellowship at Yale University. He is an expert in Early Developmental Therapeutics as well as Sarcomas, including angiosarcomas, chondrosarcomas, leiomyosarcoma, GIST, and desmoid tumors.

    Overview

    Philippos A. Costa, MD, is an oncologist specializing in the treatment of sarcomas (rare cancers that develop in the body’s bones or soft tissues) and other complex conditions related to tumors.

    Dr. Costa diagnoses and manages various types of sarcomas, including angiosarcomas (cancers of blood or lymph vessels), chondrosarcomas (cancers that form in cartilage), leiomyosarcoma (a cancer of smooth muscle), gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST, rare tumors of the digestive tract), and desmoid tumors (rare connective tissue tumors that do not spread but can be locally aggressive).

    As an assistant professor of medicine (medical oncology and hematology) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Costa’s research explores immunotherapy strategies and assesses therapies for desmoid tumors.

    Dr. Costa received his medical training in Brazil, receiving his medical degree from the Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco and completing a residency in internal medicine at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. He completed a second residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and a fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
