    Biography

Eric Grubman, who is originally from Long Island, graduated from Dartmouth College, with a degree in Biochemistry. He subsequently received a Masters Degree in Human Physiology from Georgetown University, followed by an M.D. degree from Georgetown as well. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. In addition, he served as Chief Resident at Mount Sinai. This was followed by a Cardiology Fellowship and Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship, both at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Grubman has more than 20 years of experience in caring for patients with all heart rhythm disorders. He is among the pioneers in leadless pacemaker implantation. He is an expert in the care of patients with all types of pacemakers, defibrillators (including biventricular devices) and those needing cardiac ablation.

    Overview

Eric Grubman, MD, specializes in electrophysiology, the diagnosis and treatment of irregularities in the heart’s electrical system. He treats patients with slow heart rhythms, tachycardia and other cardiac arrhythmias, and is an expert at implanting pacemakers and defibrillators.

Dr. Grubman was the first doctor in Connecticut to implant a leadless pacemaker in a patient. Pacemakers regulate electrical signals that control heartbeat, and leadless pacemakers are miniaturized versions that are inserted directly into the heart instead of an external “pocket” in the patient’s chest. Implantation of a leadless pacemaker is less invasive and causes less scarring.

He chose cardiology because of the “complexity of the issues and the ability to provide quality care to patients.” As a researcher, Dr. Grubman investigates novel pacemaker designs and new treatments for cardiac arrhythmia.
