Vishwa Deep Dixit, PhD, DVM, Chosen as Member of Academy for Health and Lifespan Research

    August 02, 2024

Vishwa Deep Dixit, PhD, DVM, Waldemar Von Zedtwitz Professor of Pathology and Professor of Immunology and Director of the Yale Center for Research on Aging, has been selected as an inductee to the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research.

The Academy is the first global non-profit group focused on accelerating breakthroughs in the expansion of the human health span. Dr. Dixit is among six inductees who were nominated and voted on by the world’s leading geroscientists. Founded in 2019, the Academy is the leading organization comprised of the world's most esteemed scientists dedicated to studying the mechanisms of aging and developing interventions to slow and reverse the process. Academy members represent various disciplines in the aging ecosystem and are engaged in disparate approaches, all sharing the common goal of the reduction and reversal of age-related declines and illnesses.

Dr. Dixit’s work at the Yale Center for Research on Aging focuses on increasing scientific understanding of the molecular mechanisms that control aging and translating those discoveries into interventions to promote healthy aging, and also to combat common age-related diseases and pathology. The Center, housed largely in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine, is a growing interdisciplinary research program in Geroscience and the Biology of Aging.

Dr. Dixit is also Principal Investigator of the Dixit Lab at Yale. The Dixit Lab is focused on understanding the interactions between metabolic and immune systems with the goal of revealing molecular targets that can be harnessed to control inflammation and immune dysfunction as means to enhance the health span. His lab has made significant contributions to understanding "inflammaging" and its impact on metabolism and age-related conditions.

Dr. Dixit studied Veterinary Medicine in India, did PhD Research at the University of Hannover, Germany, and postdoc research at Morehouse School of Medicine and at the NIH.
