Angela M. Haeny, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and director of the Racial Equity & Addiction Lab, was the recipient of the 2023 Early Career Investigator Award from the Translational Mechanisms of Behavior Change (MOBC) Satellite Meeting at the Research Society on Alcohol (RSA).
The meeting was held on June 24, 2023 in Bellevue, Washington. The MOBC meeting is a collaboration between extramural researchers and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
The Early Career Investigator Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the study of dissemination and implementation (D&I) science, MOBC, and/or their intersection. As an awardee, Haeny received a certificate, travel support to attend the meeting, and will be invited to give an Early Career Talk at the Translational MOBC Meeting next year.
Haeny’s research investigates effective alcohol and drug treatments among individuals underrepresented in substance use research with a focus on Black adults. Her research also involves identifying understudied risk factors for substance use and problems especially salient to Black people. Currently, Haeny’s research is considering how to target racial stress and trauma and other relevant constructs in drug and alcohol treatment to improve treatment outcomes, retention, and satisfaction among Black adults. This work is funded by a 5-year career development award from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
