Four current or former VA New England Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) fellows have received Career Development Awards.
Frances Aunon, PhD, (current MIRECC fellow), received a VA VISN 1 Career Development Award: Pre-piloting a motivational interviewing-based intervention for lethal means safety in primary care (Mentors: Suzanne Decker, PhD; Steve Martino, PhD; Steven Dobscha, MD; and Kirsten Wilkins, MD).
Ashley Schnakenberg Martin, PhD, Associate Research Scientist (MIRECC fellow, 2019-21), received a VA VISN 1 Career Development Award: Understanding the impact of acute and chronic cannabinoid exposure in veterans using simultaneous magnetoencephalography and electroencephalography (Mentors Deepak Cyril D'Souza, MD, and Jose Cortes-Briones, PhD).
R. Ross MacLean, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry (MIRECC fellow, 2016-17), received a VA Career Development Award-2: An adaptive walking intervention to manage chronic pain in veterans with opioid use disorder engaged in opioid agonist treatment (Mentors: Mehmet Sofuoglu, MD, PhD; Alicia Heapy, PhD; and Steve Martino, PhD).
Joao P. De Aquino, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry (MIRECC fellow, 2019-21), received a National Institute of Health (NIH) K23 Career Development Award: Cannabidiol pharmacotherapy for comorbid opioid addiction and chronic pain (Mentors: Mehmet Sofuoglu, MD, PhD, and Mohini Ranganathan, MD; Advisors: Deepak Cyril D'Souza, MD, and Ralitza Gueorguieva, PhD).
MIRECC conducts research to improve the lives of veterans affected by substance use and comorbid psychiatric disorders, and their multifaceted consequences. It hosts a two-year postdoctoral fellowship for psychologists and psychiatrists.
