Application & Interviews

We participate in the National Residency Matching Program, and do not accept any applicants outside of the match.

We encourage applicants interested in the HIV three-year training track to also apply to the Primary Care Categorical three-year program. We will be giving invited applicants information about both training tracks on interview days.

Application Requirements

Applications for a categorical position will only be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). We do not accept applications via FAX, email or postal services.

• Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
• A minimum of two (2) Letters of Recommendation (with a third optional)
  NOTE: One LOR should be submitted from the applicant's Department of Medicine chair
• Personal Statement
• Photograph (optional, but preferred to track applicants after interviews)
• Medical School Transcripts
• USMLE Transcripts or COMLEX Transcripts

• A minimum of two months of hands-on direct clinical experience in a U.S. or Canadian-accredited teaching hospital. We will not interview candidates who have not obtained this required clinical experience. Observerships or externship without direct clinical responsibility for patients do not meet this criteria.
• In order to be considered for a position in our program, applicants from medical schools located outside the U.S. and Canada MUST have graduated from medical school in the last four years or have been in a predominantly clinical role within two years of applying.
• Passed USMLE Step I & II Knowledge test on the first attempt
• Passed USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills on the first attempt
• USMLE Step 3 is not required to apply
• Fluent in spoken and written English
• You must be eligible for an ECFMG Certificate in order to apply. We require that you submit your ECGMG certificate through ERAS BEFORE February 1. We are required to have an ECFMG certificate on file for every IMG intern who matches with our training programs.

• We only accept application materials through ERAS
• November 1 is our application deadline for categorical track applicants. We strongly encourage categorical applicants to submit their applications by the end of September because our interview days become filled very quickly.
• Applicants who will not be offered an interview will be notified by email.
• All interviews take place in October, November, December and January.
• We will be unable to interview applicants who appear without an interview appointment.

Denise Brennan started with the Yale Primary Care Program in 2001. She holds a BA in Communication/Journalism from Stonehill College in North Easton, MA. She is also the Coordinator for the Yale Office-Based Medicine Curriculum and Ambulatory Coordinator for the Yale Primary Care Residency Program.
