Overview

Ashley Losier, MD, is a pulmonologist and critical care specialist. She focuses on treating chronic pulmonary infections, such as non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections, and bronchiectasis, which is a condition where the airways in the lungs become irreversibly dilated or widened.

These conditions can cause mucus to build up and lead to recurrent infections and inflammation, Dr. Losier explains.

Dr. Losier says she gravitated to pulmonary and critical care medicine because of its variety. “I like the fast pace of critical care because you are able to see results quickly, and I like in pulmonary that you can follow through with patients in the outpatient setting,” she says. “I enjoy how I can develop a rapport with patients and see them improve over time.”

In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Dr. Losier says she focuses on updating families as frequently as she can and addressing any questions they may have, and also on educating resident and fellow physicians.

“Both in the ICU and in the clinic, I like to a do a lot of patient education and counseling,” she says. “Especially with my bronchiectasis patients, there are often a lot of questions about airway clearance therapies, and I like to give them helpful information in a simple format that may make treatment strategies easier to manage.”
