Yale infectious diseases researchers investigate the interface of infectious diseases and substance use disorders using implementation science strategies for integrating addiction and HIV treatment into primary care settings.

Current projects include:

  • Ukraine (R01 DA043125) – 36-site Cluster RCT in primary care
  • West Virginia (R01 DA054703) – 20-site stepped wedge trial in primary care
  • Five state implementation trial to scale-up medications for opioid use disorder for HIV prevention – emergency departments, hospitals, addiction treatment settings, prisons, and jails
    • The states participating are West Virginia, Kentucky, Connecticut, Maine, and Vermont
  • Trials of long-acting injectables for HIV prevention (cabotegravir) and for opioid use disorder (buprenorphine)
  • Transition from prison or jail in Malaysia (R01 DA041271) to continue preventative treatment for tuberculosis
  • Combination prevention in persons with HIV – pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) – at syringe services programs in three states
  • Studies examining the contribution of alcohol use disorder on dental disease in men who have sex with men in Peru
