Yale Ryan White Program

Since 2009, the Yale HIV/AIDS Program has served as the lead agency for the Ryan White Part A group of community stakeholders. The group is a collaboration between Yale School of Medicine, community clinics, and organizations in New Haven.

Ryan White funding is the largest federal source of funding that supports the care of persons with HIV, functioning as a safety net for persons who are under-resourced for care. The Ryan White continuum of care organizes multi-disciplinary care, including case management, substance use, mental health services, housing, and medical transportation, which are critical for holistic HIV care. Research built on this collaboration has included looking at HIV outcomes within the Ryan White system.

Additional research involving local and national health departments and diverse groups of HIV clinics has focused on strategies to promote entry into and retention in care for persons lost to care and persons with HIV/hepatitis C infection.

Since 2021, a collaboration with Yale New Haven Hospital, led by Michael Virata, MD, FACP, FIDSA, has led to Ryan White Part B funding. This partnership provides a continuum of services, including case management and dental care for persons with HIV living throughout New Haven County.
