Yale Dermatology Faculty Retreat
The Department of Dermatology held its first faculty retreat on May 31, 2023 under the auspices of Department Chair Keith Choate, MD, PhD. The Department has grown significantly in the recent past, with faculty working out of many different clinical and research locations. The retreat provided faculty with the much-needed opportunity to engage in person and informally off campus. A working group including: Peggy Myung, MD, PhD; Christine Ko, MD; David Leffell, MD; Jacob Siegel, MD; Sean Christensen, MD, PhD; Michael Girardi, MD; Jon Leventhal, MD; and Sarika Ramachandran, MD met regularly to develop an itinerary that included team-building exercises and three-minute presentations by all faculty, which afforded everyone a glimpse into the breadth of their colleagues' professional and personal interests. The collegial atmosphere was enhanced by the venue on Yale's North Campus. Cocktails and entertainment capped off the day on the lawn of the Greenberg Center.

New Faculty Spotlight: Lauren Provini, MD
Assistant Professor
Lauren Provini, MD
"I am overjoyed to join the faculty and begin my role as assistant professor of dermatology, focusing on pediatric dermatology, in September. This exciting step is particularly meaningful to me, as my heart has always been at Yale. I grew up in a suburb of New Haven, and I was an undergraduate and medical student here, so Yale truly feels like home.
In my new role, I am thrilled to be able to care for children and families in the greater New Haven community, and to give back to the YSM community by teaching and mentoring the next generation of learners in medicine. My inspiration to pursue pediatric dermatology as a career really stems from the tremendous mentors I have had in my residencies at CHOP and UCSF, and now at Yale.
I look forward to seeing pediatric patients primarily at the Yale Dermatology Branford site. I will also have a vascular laser clinic in New Haven and will attend twice monthly at the Pediatric Dermatology PCC clinic. Academically, and with the goal of lifelong learning, I am excited to get involved with clinical trials to bring new treatments to our pediatric dermatology patients.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband, Nate (hematology/oncology fellow at Yale), singing, listening to LPs (favorites include Elton John and Taylor Swift), and everything Disney."

In Memoriam: Brian McGrath, MD
Brian McGrath, MD, a long-time member of the volunteer faculty, passed away on July 15th at age 90. For 50 years, he practiced in Guilford, initially as an internist and then as a dermatologist. Dr. McGrath never forgot his Yale roots, where he supervised dermatology residents and regularly attended Grand Rounds.
A native of Hamden, Dr. McGrath attended Yale College, where he majored in psychology and participated on the wrestling team. After graduating from Yale School of Medicine, he joined Dr. Elisabeth C. Adams in Guilford and served in the U.S. Air Force as a physician. In 1969, he returned to Yale to complete residency training in dermatology.
Upon retiring in 2007, Dr. McGrath continued to cultivate both his curious mind and fun-loving spirit. His myriad interests ranged from gardening to astronomy – a beautiful life made richer by his beloved wife, Judy, and their seven children.
