Clinical Care

Overview

Angela Montgomery, MD, is a neonatologist who specializes in the treatment of premature infants. Dr. Montgomery takes care of babies who require treatment in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Montgomery uses a colorful analogy when she is providing reassurance to parents worried about the health of their baby. “Having a baby in the NICU is like being on a roller coaster ride blindfolded,” she tells them. “We know that there will be bumps and turns, and we can't always predict what and when they will occur. What I am sure of is that we will be here for you and your baby, every step of the way.”

Dr. Montgomery also cares for infants and young children in the Yale Medicine NICU GRAD (Great Results After Discharge) Program. This program is designed to meet the ongoing medical and developmental needs of an infant after discharge from the NICU. “Our goal is to identify concerns with growth and nutrition early, in order to provide interventions to maximize the potential for these at-risk patients,” she says, adding that this is the best part of her work. “I enjoy watching patients move on from what is often a long and complicated stay in the NICU to discharge and beyond in our GRAD program.”

Dr. Montgomery is an assistant professor of pediatrics (neonatology) at Yale School of Medicine.
