Biography

Dr Steven Vyce is a Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgeon practicing at Yale-New Haven Medical Center.

He is the Chairman of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Department of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, the Director of the Yale Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgery Residency Program, the Medical Director of the Yale-New Haven Foot and Ankle Surgeons group and is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine.

His clinical specialties include foot and ankle sports medicine and trauma, reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, and diabetic foot reconstruction. In practice, he believes in tailoring care for each person as an individual, providing treatment options and ample opportunity for his patients to participate in decisions about their care. He is in practice at the St Raphael’s Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital and also has a North Haven (NEMG) office.

Dr Vyce received his Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York, College at Oneonta, where he majored in Biotechnology, with a minor in Chemistry. He went on to receive his medical degree (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating magna cum laude. He then completed his Podiatric Surgery Residency at University Hospital/University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UH/UMDNJ) in Newark, NJ, which provided comprehensive podiatric surgical training with specialization in foot and ankle trauma and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. He served as the Chief Resident during his final year, graduating in 1999.

Following residency, Dr Vyce was appointed as a Clinical Instructor in Podiatric Surgery at University Hospital/University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and began practicing as part of the University Doctors of NJ Med, the Faculty Practice of the NJ Medical School. He later started his own private practice in NY, and he maintained his clinical appointment at UH/UMDNJ through 2012.

In 2007, he left private practice to accept appointments as the Chief Podiatric Surgeon for the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and the Associate Podiatric Surgery Residency Director of the Yale Podiatric Surgery Residency Program. He was appointed as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine, and then as the Podiatric Surgery Residency Program Director in 2008 and has served in that role since.

Yale New Haven Hospital created the Department of Podiatric Surgery in 2013, and Dr Vyce was recruited to become its first Chairman and Chief, a position he remains in today. He was appointed as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine in 2022.

Dr Vyce Is a Diplomat of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ABFAS), by which he is Board Certified in both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery. He has been a member of the ABFAS Board Certification Credentials Review Committee and is an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), having served on the Post Graduate Education Committee, Professional Relations Committee and Annual Scientific Conference Committee.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Podiatric Foundation; he is a founding member and is on the Board of Directors for the Yale Foot and Ankle Society and he is a member of the Yale Surgical Society. He also serves on the Yale-New Haven Hospital Medical Executive Commitee.

Nationally, he is a Board Member on the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME), which accredits all Colleges of Podiatric Medicine, approves residencies in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and approves providers of Continuing Medical Education in Podiatry. He is also a member of CPME's Residency Review Committee (RRC) and has been appointed as the Chairman of the RRC.

He has also served on the Administrative Board of the Council of Teaching Hospitals of AACPM and the Collaborative Residency Evaluator Committee.

Dr Vyce has been a principal investigator in numerous research projects, and lectures locally and nationally regarding medicine and surgery of the foot as well as residency education.

He enjoys golfing, boating and spending time with his family and dogs.
