Giuseppe Sarno is a 1995 graduate of the Yale Physician Associate Program. Many years prior to that, however, at the age of 13, Giuseppe’s parents left southern Italy and relocated the family to the United States to provide better opportunities for Giuseppe and his siblings. He is extremely proud of achieving the American Dream held by so many immigrants.
Giuseppe excelled in high school and was awarded a 4-year academic scholarship to Boston University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, while working in a restaurant tossing pizzas on the side to support himself.
Upon graduation from BU, Giuseppe worked first at a cardiac rehabilitation facility. Soon after, however, he was hired by a mobile imaging practice where he learned ultrasonography, and specifically echocardiography, and where he fell in love with the heart and all things vascular. He continued as a cardiac sonographer and then as the Technical Manager of the practice for eight years, until he was accepted into the Class of 1995.
Upon graduation, Giuseppe worked on the inpatient service at St Raphael Hospital in New Haven for several years, then returned to his home city of Boston where he accepted a position in Cardiology at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center. He has been working in the hospital as a cardiology PA for over 25 years. His commitment to his patients, the department and the Lahey Clinic earned Giuseppe the Distinguished Advanced Practitioner award by his Lahey Clinic peers in 2023. Although he has stepped away from full time practice, he continues to see patients via telemedicine part time.
In addition to his service to his full-time practice, Giuseppe has also been an active volunteer for Project Pacer International. This Boston based non-profit organization is dedicated to the provision of modern cardiac therapy to patients in the developing world. Giuseppe donated his time providing care to patients in around the world. These experiences have generated some of his most treasured memories.
Aside from his professional career, Giuseppe has been committed civic advocate for the residents of East Boston, where he grew up and lives currently. Although he does not serve in an official capacity, he has been a persistent voice of his community to city officials for the improvement of roads and traffic flow, prevention of over-development, and in the last few years, representing the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Giuseppe has been also an avid tennis player over the years, now more as a spectator than on the court himself. He enjoys meditation following the philosophies of his favorite Buddhist monk. He says that he can place himself in any part of the world with his brain and imagination. His greatest joy, however, is spending time with his family and friends.
