Eleven Yale faculty are among 23 individuals recently elected to the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. Members of the academy are considered Connecticut's leading experts in science, engineering, and technology.
The newly elected members will be introduced at the academy’s 40th annual meeting and dinner on May 19 at the Crowne Plaza Cromwell Hotel in Cromwell.
The Yale affiliates are:
Kathleen M. Carroll, the Albert E. Kent Professor of Psychiatry;
Craig M. Crews, the Lewis Cullman Professor, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology;
Ralph J. Dileone, professor of psychiatry and neurobiology;
Peter M. Glazer, chair and the Robert E. Hunter Professor of Therapeutic Radiology;
Alessandro Gomez, professor of mechanical engineering and materials science;
Angus C. Nairn, the Charles B. G. Murphy Professor of Psychiatry and professor of pharmacology;
Gerard Sanacora, professor of psychiatry and director of the Yale Depression Research Program;
Alanna Schepartz, the Milton Harris '29 Ph.D. Professor of Chemistry, and professor of molecular, cellular, and developmental biology;
Steven M. Southwick, the Glenn H. Greenberg Professor of Psychiatry, PTSD, and Resilience, Yale School of Medicine; medical director of the Clinical Neuroscience Division, VA National Center for PTSD;
Vasilis Vasiliou, professor and chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences; and
Julie B. Zimmerman, professor of green engineering, School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Election to the academy is based on scientific and engineering distinction achieved through significant contributions in theory or applications, as demonstrated by original published books and papers, patents, the pioneering of new and developing fields and innovative products, outstanding leadership of nationally recognized technical teams, and external professional awards in recognition of scientific and engineering excellence.
