November 18, 2024

Anahita Bassir Nia, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, has been selected as a funding recipient of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) Early-Stage Investigator Assistance Program.

She has been invited to attend the 2024 ACNP Annual Meeting December 8-11 in Phoenix, Ariz., where she will present the results of her National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded R21 grant on the “Endocannabinoid System Alterations in Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).” The research showed abnormalities of cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1R) in individuals with opioid use disorder.

Bassir Nia has focused her research on translational science, with a particular focus on the endocannabinoid system, to understand the neurobiology of stress-related psychiatric disorders such as substance use disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her goal is to identify novel biological targets in treating these disorders.
