    Biography

Dr. Annalies Denoble specializes in caring for patients with high-risk pregnancies. Pregnancy does not always go according to plan and complications can arise for both the mother and the fetus. As a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist, Dr. Denoble tries to help patients achieve their parenting goals as safely and confidently as possible.

Dr. Denoble started her career in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI where she obtained an MD and a Master of Science in Clinical Research. She went on to Duke University in Durham, NC where she completed her residency in OB/Gyn in 2018 and fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at in 2021. During her training, she encountered a growing number of patients becoming pregnant with complicated heart conditions, such as heart failure and congenital heart disease. Carrying a pregnancy for nine months can be stressful for the heart. However, with careful planning and collaboration, a safe pregnancy is often possible. Now at Yale's School of Medicine, Dr. Denoble works closely with Yale's multi-disciplinary Pregnancy Heart Team to help coordinate care for patients with heart disease. Dr. Denoble sees patients with heart disease prior to pregnancy for pre-conception consultation to optimize the chances of a healthy and successful pregnancy. In collaboration with Cardiology, she continues to follow patients closely during their pregnancy with the goal of a healthy mother and healthy baby.

Dr. Denoble's clinical research focuses on learning more about complications that can arise from heart disease in pregnancy and how better to address and prevent these complications.

    Research

    Overview

As an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology and a board-eligible maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Denoble's goal is to improve our understanding of cardiovascular diseases in pregnancy and the postpartum period through innovative, patient-relevant research. Cardiac disease is the leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States, but evidence-based strategies for diagnosing, treating, and preventing cardiovascular disease in pregnancy remain limited. Her clinical research involves improving the accuracy of risk prediction models for both adverse cardiac events in pregnancy and severe maternal morbidity and mortality. Ultimately, her goal is to develop strategies that can be employed in the pre-conception and early pregnancy period to better mitigate the risks of pre-existing cardiac disease in pregnancy. Her prior research focused on differences in clinical biomarkers of heart failure between pregnant women with and without obesity, given that obesity is a risk factor for cardiac disease and may complicate the diagnosis of cardiovascular complications in pregnancy. Her background in clinical research through a Master of Science in Clinical Research provides a solid foundation upon which to build her investigation.

She also conducts epidemiologic and clinical research in preeclampsia and hypertension in pregnancy, vaccine safety in pregnancy, and infections in pregnancy.

    Clinical Care

    Overview

Annalies Denoble, MD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist who specializes in maternal-fetal medicine, or high-risk pregnancies.

“I have been passionate about women’s health for a long time. I see women as the center of health for the whole family,” she says. “The interplay of physiology of the mom and the fetus during pregnancy is fascinating—you always have to think about two patients and not just one.”

Dr. Denoble says she was drawn to maternal-fetal medicine for its diversity of tasks. “We get to read ultrasounds for routine prenatal care. We deliver babies. We handle complex cases. You never have two days that are the same,” she says. “Plus, there is so much we can do to help patients. Many of the women we take care of have had high-risk pregnancies in the past and they are anxious. Being able to walk with them throughout their pregnancy is incredibly rewarding.”

Part of her approach to patient care is giving women the opportunity to voice their concerns, Dr. Denoble says. “Sometimes just being able to voice what they are most worried about helps them feel more confident moving forward. I also make sure they know that I am there with them throughout their pregnancy, regardless of what decisions they make,” she adds.

Dr. Denoble’s clinical and research interests include maternal heart disease in pregnancy. As the leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States, addressing gaps in our understanding of heart disease in pregnancy is critical to improving maternal health.
