Associate Research Scientist Cyprien Rivier, MD, MSc, is one of two recipients of the Ralph L. Sacco Scholarship for Brain Health.
Awarded jointly by the American Heart Association and American Academy of Neurology, the grant supports Rivier’s current research into the effect of biological age on the risk of developing dementia and stroke.
Whereas chronological age is measured in time since birth, biological age is a measure of the biological and molecular changes underlying the aging process.
“Biological age varies in response to environmental and lifestyle exposures and reflects the remaining health and lifespan of an individual,” said Rivier.
Given the connection between biological age and overall health, Rivier’s research will explore a hypothesized association between biological age and brain health.
