Afsheen Nasir, MBBS, Postdoctoral Associate in Safdar Lab, Department of Emergency Medicine, was selected to serve as a member on the International Affairs Committee of Women in Thoracic Surgery (WTS). WTS is the only organization dedicated to the support and advancement of women in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
As a co-investigator for Women's Health Research at Yale, Nasir has led pilot projects examining disparities in elective and emergent aortic surgery outcomes, along with the underlying causes, including patterns of surveillance using big data from Yale Imaging Centers. Nasir's curiosity extends to the role of pregnancy and female reproductive hormones in the progression of cardiac diseases as well as playing a pivotal role in developing a structured surgical and imaging database for the aortic research team.
