    Andrea Barbieri, MD, to Succeed Diane Kowalski, MD, MMSc, as Director of Pathology Residency Training Program

    Chen Liu, MD, PhD, Chair of Yale Pathology, announced that Diane Kowalski, MD, MMSc, will end her 10-year tenure as Director of the Pathology Residency Training Program and be succeeded by Andrea Barbieri, MD, the current Associate Program Director.

    Dr. Barbieri has assumed the role of Executive Assistant Program Director with plans to formally assume the title of Program Director on August 1. In addition, Rita Abi Raad, MD, has been named the program’s new Associate Program Director, succeeding Dr. Barbieri.

    The Yale Pathology Residency Training Program is an ACGME accredited training program offered through Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital.

    “Resident education is one of the key missions of the department,” Dr. Liu continued.

    The program provides outstanding training in all aspects of pathology and laboratory medicine, as well as opportunities for research and individualized study. The program's mission is to give its residents the strong scientific and medical foundation needed to excel in practice and become leaders in the field.

    It was also announced that Harvey Rinder, MD, will step down as Associate Director of the Yale Pathology Residence Program and transition his position to Nataliya Sostin, MD, Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Rinder will transition his duties as Associate Director after 23 remarkable years of amazing accomplishments as associate residency director.

    Dr. Sostin, who has been a transformative advocate for optimized residency training – creating a much-appreciated rotation at the SRC campus – has agreed to assume a co-associate-director position with Dr. Rinder this coming academic year with plans to assume the full associate directorship position at the conclusion of the year.
