Analysis of alcohol-related deaths among young passengers riding with an impaired driver

    February 06, 2022

A study by Yale Developmental Neurocognitive Driving Simulation Research Center (DrivSim Lab) faculty, in collaboration with several institutions, takes a closer look at the characteristics of factors contributing to motor-vehicle deaths of 15 to 20-year-old passengers that ride with an impaired driver. This analysis shows that among teenage deaths as a passenger in a car, the majority occurred while riding with peer drivers, and discovered that in 27% of these cases the driver had been drinking.
