Karin Nyström completed her undergraduate degree in Life Sciences at the New York Institute of Technology and her master’s degree from the Yale University School of Nursing. She pursued a post-master’s certificate from the University of Alabama attending the NET SMART program in acute stroke care. She began her nursing career at Yale New Haven Hospital in cardiology in 1991 specializing in heart failure and heart transplantation before pursuing her interest in vascular neurology. She became the stroke coordinator of the hospital’s stroke program in 2005 and developed the advanced practice program for the stroke service in 2010.
Karin served as a Joint Commission certification reviewer for stroke programs across the country from 2007 to 2020, and participated in several working groups for the American Stroke Association during that time.
Karin has co-authored articles in the fields of cardiology and vascular neurology, as well as clinical practice guidelines for the American Heart and American Stroke Association, and the American Telemedicine Association.
Karin is the co-chair of the State of CT Stroke Advisory Council (SOCSAC) and co-leads the CT Stroke Coordinators’ organization.
