    Biography

    Rebekah Heckmann, MD, MPH, MPA, is an assistant professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology and core faculty for the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine. She is board certified in emergency medicine, addiction medicine, and pain medicine.

    Dr. Heckmann completed her residency in emergency medicine and served as chief resident at the University of Washington before pursuing a health policy research and translation fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. While working as an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s, she earned a master in public administration degree from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

    She has extensive experience performing health policy analysis and working within public health and global health systems. She focuses her research activities on using quantitative social science methods, including system dynamics modeling, to design and advocate for evidence-based health policy.

    Dr. Heckmann has also served as a research scientist at the Yale Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation, the director of resident research for the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the associate medical director of the Project ASSERT Program.

    Overview

    Rebekah Heckmann, MD, MPH, MPA, is an interventional pain physician who has a special interest in treating individuals with peripheral nerve pain and joint pain, in addition to providing care to patients with substance use disorders.

    She derives great satisfaction from understanding the role that chronic pain plays in patients’ lives and developing tailored treatment plans based on each patient’s individual goals.

    Dr. Heckmann completed her residency in emergency medicine and served as chief resident at the University of Washington before pursuing a health policy research fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She completed a second fellowship in interventional pain medicine at the University of Michigan and is board-certified in emergency medicine, addiction medicine, and pain medicine.

    In addition to providing care as an interventional pain physician, Dr. Heckmann is an active researcher who focuses her investigative activities on using quantitative social science methods to design and advocate for evidence-based health policy. She holds degrees in public health from Johns Hopkins University and Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, in addition to a degree in public administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
