The Yale Global Health Leadership Initiative (GHLI) is pleased to be presenting at the 23rd International AIDS Conference, AIDS 2020, which is taking place virtually this year, July 6-10.
GHLI is featuring results from its evaluation of Project Last Mile (PLM), a global health partnership that shares the private sector expertise of The Coca-Cola Company to strengthen health systems across Africa. At AIDS 2020, we will be presenting the results of PLM in eSwatini (funded by the Global Fund, in partnership with Ministry of Health) and South Africa (funded by USAID, in partnership with National Department of Health).
- In eSwatini, PLM applied the strategic marketing processes that attract youth to global brands to drive demand for health services for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). The result was Girl Champ, a co-created, aspirational campaign that inspires youth to protect their health and safeguard their future, reaching over 1,700 girls to register for health services. - In South Africa, PLM leverages private sector expertise to support a national differentiated service delivery model – the Central Chronic Medications Dispensing and Distribution (CCMDD) program – with private sector expertise and technical support. Since 2016, the program has reached all health districts from participating provinces, with 95% of facilities registered and over 2M patients collecting medications for chronic disease, including HIV and NCDs. Over 2000 pick-up points have been contracted through local retailers. To learn more, visit poster PED1172 at AIDS 2020 and visit the supplemental website.
In partnership with PLM, GHLI is amplifying what is possible when the private and public sector work together for global good. See below for a related panel featuring PLM at AIDS 2020:

Session Description
COVID-19 has transformed the way the world prioritizes global health. In countries where weak health systems are already overstretched, COVID-19 threatens to be catastrophic. We are at an inflection point and an unprecedented partnership is needed between Governments, Civil Society and the Private Sector. There is an opportunity to build on the experiences and leadership of these sectors in the global fight against HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, in order to fight the impact of COVID-19, and protect hard-won gains in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This session will explore how to improve collaboration between the Private Sector and Civil Society, presenting successes and best practices, as well as looking at the challenges and opportunities in accelerating the fight against HIV/AIDS, together.
