Middlesex Health Perioperative Safety Committee | This committee was formed in 2007 to develop Best Practices for patient safety in the perioperative space . The committee was comprised of nursing staff, anesthesia providers, pharmacy, surgeons and our vice president in charge of Surgical Services. The team developed a "preflight" process where the patient and family, anesthesia team, circulating nurse and surgeon would meet in the holding area prior to moving to the operating room. All surgical checklist items were addressed at this time. This dramatically improved our throughput , and most importantly our patients' safety and satisfaction . Communication between surgeons and nursing staff also improved dramatically. Adherence to the program was monitored on a bimonthly basis at a 7:00 a.m. meeting with the above stakeholders . | 2007 - 2017 |
