Application Timeline and Deadlines:
Applications will be accepted beginning July 1st through September 5th, the year prior to the start of the fellowship. Selected applicants will be invited to meet and interview with the Yale Craniofacial Surgery Team in September.
Application Requirements:
- U.S. medical school graduate
- ACGME-approved plastic surgery residency
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a current H1B working visa.
- Able to hold a full medical license in Connecticut

Insurance and Licensure Requirements:
- Malpractice Requirements:
- Fellows are covered for malpractice and are eligible for group life insurance, medical insurance, and disability
- State Licensure Requirements:
- Candidates must be eligible for Connecticut Physician Licensure, and attain licensure once accepted into the program. Foreign graduates must have an ECFMG Certificate.
- Responsibilities and Activities:
Responsibilities of Fellows:
The craniofacial fellow is primarily responsible for developing their technical skills and clinical acumen through surgical case coverage, multi-disciplinary pre- and post-operative clinics, and pre-operative planning of complex cases. Fellows are also expected to teach plastic surgery residents, participate in didactic instruction on craniomaxillofacial facial topics, and act as consultants with plastic surgery residents covering facial trauma call.
The fellow is also expected to partake in and publish research during their year.
Fellows may also take attending craniofacial trauma call with faculty backup and proctoring.
Clinic Responsibilities:
- Weekly multi-disciplinary Pediatric Craniofacial Clinic
- Monthly multi-disciplinary Orthognathic Surgery Conference
- Bi-Monthly multi-disciplinary Craniofacial Trauma Conference
Research Activities and Conferences:
- Fellows are required to undertake clinical or laboratory research.
- Fellows are supported to present their research at craniofacial surgery research meetings with accepted lecture presentations.
- Fellows are supported to attend one major craniofacial surgery meeting as an educational activity.
- Fellows are funded and supported to attend the ASCFS/ASMS Craniofacial Fellow Bootcamp
Other Related Activities:
- Fellows are encouraged to attend all local educational conferences.
- Fellows will have the opportunity to be intimately involved with the preoperative workup, virtual surgical planning, creation of occlusal splints, and perform model surgery for orthognathic cases. Close collaboration with orthodontists and oral maxillofacial surgery residents is encouraged.
