Alumnus William Cushing, PA-C, Class of 2002 works as the Director of APRNs and PAs for Yale New Haven Hospital in Hospitalist Medicine. Will precepts our students during their pre-clinical training in their didactic year as part of the Longitudinal Clinical Experience (LCE) and on their Internal Medicine clinical rotation. He enjoys the inquisitiveness of the students. He feels that their fresh perspective and questions challenge him to be a better provider. He remarked that the Hospitalist Attendings also comment frequently on the Yale PA students’ foundation of knowledge and their ability to manage complex cases. He believes that the student involvement is welcomed by the patients and their families. Will has said, “Our patients often comment on the compassion and professionalism of the Yale PA students. In a busy tertiary care hospital the students are able to provide an additional layer of support to the patients we serve.”
As a graduate of the Yale Program, Will continues to demonstrate leadership by paying it forward. He has said, “I felt very fortunate to have had such dedicated and enthusiastic preceptors when I was a student in the Yale PA Program. I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with Yale PA students and share my experiences with them.”
