Community & Mentoring
The most amazing thing about the Yale MD-PhD Program is the community of students, staff and faculty who are part of our program!
The career of a physician-scientist is not easy, and our community helps each of us get through the difficult moments of this profession and joins together to celebrate successes big and small.
MD-PhD Student Council The mission of the MD-PhD Student Council is to provide broadly representative student feedback and suggestions about program activities to program leadership.MD-PhD Collaborative Excellence Committee Collaborative excellence is central to the mission of the Yale MD-PhD Program. By welcoming people with a wide range of backgrounds, views, and academic disciplines, we strive to enrich academic discourse and create a welcoming, vibrant community.
Student Perspectives at Yale The SPY program aims to support students of all years throughout their time here by facilitating discussions and mentorship on topics related to a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and interests within the MD-PhD Program.
Peer Advising by Senior Students The goal of the PASS Program is to facilitate peer-to-peer mentoring in which senior students pass down program specific (i.e. based on PhD department or clinical interest) information to junior students.Mentoring and Peer Advice from Recent Trainees (MPART) MPART is a way for recent MD-PhD Program graduates to stay connected to current students who can continue to benefit from their insights and advice. We welcome residents and fellows who recently graduated from other MD-PhD programs to be MPART mentors.
Faculty Mentoring Activities MD-PhD Program offers students Individual Development Plans, Professional Development, and Advising.Career Development Many of our graduates have indicated that they are willing to directly speak to students interested in their training path or current work, and the Directors facilitate these connections during advising meetings. We also highlight the career trajectories of physician-scientist graduates of our and other MD-PhD programs during our annual Retreat, through panel discussions that feature alumni of Yale’s and other MSTP program who are engaged in non-academic careers as well as those at different faculty stages.Parental Support and Relief The MD/PhD program is committed to supporting students at all stages of training who have children or are planning to have children.MD-PhD House System The MD-PhD House system was created by the Student Council to facilitate the vertical integration of students across all years of the program through student-run intiatives, community gatherings and friendly competition.
Yale Biomed Amgen Scholars Program Many of our MD-PhD students serve as peer and research mentors to undergraduate students participating in the Yale Biomed Amgen Scholars Program, a research intensive summer training program in biomedical research.
