Clinical Chemistry
Program Description
The clinical chemistry ACGME-approved fellowship training program is a 1-year program, while the ComACC-approved fellowship program is a 2-year program. Both are based at the York Street campus of Yale-New Haven Health, Yale-New Haven Hospital. Yale-New Haven Health, primarily located in New Haven, Connecticut, is a non-profit, multispecialty (adult and pediatric) academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. It is one of the largest hospitals in the country with over 1,541-bed facilities and 7 million clinical chemistry test results/year. The chemistry laboratories are directed by the faculty of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory within the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. In addition to clinical chemistry, the Department of Laboratory Medicine also includes the disciplines of apheresis/cell therapy/transfusion services, blood banking, flow cytometry, hematology, immunology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, tumor profiling, and virology.
The Chemistry Fellowship training program is structured to provide training in the service, teaching, and research aspects of clinical chemistry. This includes clinical training through structured rotations and research time in the Chemistry laboratory. By the end of training, the fellow will have experienced advanced clinical rotations and graduated responsibilities reaching the level appropriate for a laboratory director. There are also ample opportunities to conduct translational research through the Biomarker Translation Laboratory and the Program of Applied Translational Research at Yale University. The program structure is flexible to afford individualized training.
The Clinical Chemistry Fellowship is both a COMACC certified program (for either PhD Clinical Chemists or MD Chemical Pathologists) and an ACGME program (for MD Chemists). If interested in the COMACC fellowship, please go to our listing on the COMACC website for more information.
For the ACGME fellowship you may use the standardized CAP fellowship application as a replacement for our application, if you prefer. In that case, please be sure to include all the requested information on our application form (e.g., statement of your interest in clinical chemistry) in an appropriate place on the CAP form, as well as the additional data requested by the CAP form itself.
If using our form for ACGME application, please send a CV, statement of your interest in clinical chemistry and have letters of reference forwarded by three individuals - one of those letters should be from the Chair or the residency director of your prior training program.

Program Listing
Application Procedure
Prerequisites
Applicants for ACGME-program must have completed or are completing an ACGME-approved residency in Pathology (AP/CP or CP-only) such that they are or will be eligible to sit for certifying examination(s) of the American Board of Pathology in AP/CP or CP-only. Applicants for the ComACC-approved program must have completed a PhD or MD that meets the requirements listed under ComACC.
Procedures
For ACGME-program, please email the program director for the standard Fellowship application; submit the application, along with a letter of intent, three letters of recommendation, and curriculum vitae to the program director. The selection committee reviews all applications; selected applicants will be invited for interviews and if allowable, in-person visit to New Haven. For ComACC, please follow the instructions on the Yale-ComACC website.
