Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Department of Laboratory Medicine is committed to embracing the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). We have a DEI committee headed by Dr. Paula Kavathas, our departmental diversity champion, a monthly DEI journal club begun in 2020 by PhD student Emily Siniscalco, and social events to foster community and belonging. In addition, there are educational events such as a talk in 2024 by Dr. Lakia Scott, Assistant Provost for Faculty Development & Diversity, on running inclusive faculty searches.

The Yale School of Medicine has the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), headed by Dr. Darin Latimore, the Deputy Dean and Chief Diversity officer. He and his office organize a monthly meeting for all departmental diversity champions to coordinate and inform about events/resources/initiatives. They hold many relevant events for the community.
