Overview
Whitney Besse, MD, is a nephrologist who diagnoses and manages kidney disorders, including inherited conditions such as polycystic kidney disease, which can lead to the formation of fluid-filled sacs called cysts in the kidneys. She employs a variety of approaches to help slow disease progression and relieve symptoms.
As an assistant professor of medicine (nephrology) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Besse investigates the genetic foundations of kidney diseases. Her research aims to identify new disease genes and understand their mechanisms to guide future treatments for people living with polycystic kidney and liver diseases.
Dr. Besse received her medical training from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and pursued residency and fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. Her work has been recognized with honors, including the Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award.
