Clinical Care

Overview

Dennis Moledina, MD, PhD, is a nephrologist (kidney specialist) who directs the Yale Kidney BioBank, which collects samples of kidney tissue, DNA, plasma, and urine to better understand kidney diseases and develop treatments.

Dr. Moledina's work revolves around evaluating biomarkers for acute interstitial nephritis, a lesion that causes a decline in kidney function, and acute kidney injury. He is the recipient of several National Institutes of Health (NIH) research awards and enrolls study participants in NIH-funded consortia, including the Kidney Precision Medicine Program (KPMP) and care of outpatients with acute kidney injury (COPE-AKI).

He obtained clinical training through a clinical fellowship in nephrology and research training through postdoctoral fellowship and an investigative medicine doctorate at Yale University. Notably, his research experience includes leading the enrollment of a group of more than 750 participants concurrent with their kidney biopsy to create the Yale Kidney BioBank. In this group, he has identified diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of acute interstitial nephritis.

Dr. Moledina is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. This designation honors members who have distinguished themselves through excellent work and clinical practice.
