Radiology & Biomedical Imaging
Since Yale University's pioneering X-ray experiment in 1898, its Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging has become a leader in the field, attracting top-tier faculty and delivering advanced education. The department offers one of the nation's most competitive residency programs, receiving over 1200 applications annually for its highly-regarded Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology residencies, and a new Diagnostic Medical Physics Training Program.
In addition to education, the department provides diagnostic and interventional radiology services at Yale New Haven Hospital, one of the top-ranked hospitals in the country, and across multiple ambulatory facilities. This includes imaging consultation and diagnostic procedures for the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and Yale University Health System.
The department is committed to innovative research, with over 46 faculty generating grants in excess of $21M in 2021, focusing on MRI, MRS, PET, and Image Processing. Unique research opportunities are available at the technologically advanced Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Research Center and the Yale MR Research Center.
Furthermore, the department is dedicated to global outreach, sponsoring radiology residents to help address the global shortage of well-trained radiologists, with initiatives like the Tanzania Elective, which inaugurated Tanzania's first Interventional Radiology training program.
