Janice Hwang Named Assistant Professor in Endocrinology

September 15, 2016

Please join the Endocrinology section in celebrating Dr. Janice Hwang’s transition from Instructor to Assistant Professor. Dr. Hwang's research focuses on using novel neuroimaging techniques to understand human metabolism. In addition, Dr. Hwang will continue working as an attending physician at the West Haven VA.

Dr. Hwang received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 2006 and has spent the past four years here at Yale University in the Endocrinology Fellowship Program, most recently as a senior Research Fellow and Instructor. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, where she also served as a Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Hwang received her fellowship training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital and moved to Yale in 2012 to continue her research training with Dr. Robert Sherwin.

Her academic interests converge at the intersection of metabolism, neuroscience and imaging. Her research focuses on using advanced brain imaging modalities, such as functional MRI and magnetic resonance spectroscopy coupled with classic investigative techniques in metabolism, to understand the effects of diabetes and obesity on the central nervous system. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Yale Diabetes Research Center, and the Endocrine Fellows Foundation. She is the recipient of several awards for her research, including the Marilyn Fishman Award for Diabetes Research, the Endocrine Fellows Foundation Young Investigator award, the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation Junior Faculty Scholars Award, and the Metabolism Award for Junior Investigators.
