Biography

A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Garofalo completed his general surgery internship and a research year focusing on cardiac surgery and the Da Vinci robot at East Carolina University in North Carolina. He completed his Anesthesiology Residency at the University of South Florida where he was Chief Resident. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Garofalo obtained an MBA at NYU Stern School of Business and completed the American Society of Anesthesiologists Certificate in Business Administration. Following his Residency, Dr. Garofalo was employed at the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, FL. He then moved to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)/Altoona Hospital where he provided anesthesia services in all anesthesia areas with a focus on orthopedic anesthesia and extensive regional anesthesia peripheral nerve block activity for the hospital’s busy orthopedic practice. Dr. Garofalo then moved to the Riverside Regional Health System in Virginia and became Chief of Anesthesia and Chair of the Surgical Block Committee at Riverside Doctors Hospital in Williamsburg, VA. As an active member of the Orthopedic Total Joint Multidisciplinary Program, Dr. Garofalo provided regional anesthesia for orthopedic fracture and total joint cases as the program moved toward the designation of Orthopedic Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement Surgery. He has performed over 400 peripheral nerve blocks for shoulder/elbow/wrist//hip/knee/ankle/foot surgeries including Interscalene, Supraclavicular, Intraclavicular, Axillary, Lumbar Plexus, Fascia Iliaca, Femoral, Adductor Canal, Sciatic, Popliteal and iPack nerve blocks, and has experience placing PN catheters for ISB and Adductor Canal blocks.
