Biography

Dr. Cheryl K. Gooden served in the role as Interim Section Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at Yale New Haven Hospital from October 2019 until September 2020. Dr. Gooden received her medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine. Following her internship in Pediatrics at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, she completed an Anesthesia residency at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Gooden completed a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at both the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and became Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Mount Sinai in 2009. She has served as a board member for the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia and the Society for Pediatric Sedation. She was a member of the writing group for the 2015 PALS Guidelines, American Heart Association. She is an editor for "The Pediatric Procedural Sedation Handbook," published in November 2018. Dr. Gooden joined the Yale University School of Medicine faculty in 2018 as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics. For more than 10 years she has been involved in educational and healthcare initiatives with Komedyplast at Instituto Nacional de Salud del Nino in Lima, Peru. She is the Chair of the Abstract Review Subcommittee on Pediatric Anesthesia for the American Society of Anesthesiologists as well as Vice-Chair for the Global Health Committee, co-Chair of the International Scholars Committee for the Anesthesiology Foundation of New York, Anesthesia Surveyor for the American College of Surgeons Children's Surgery Verification Program, and a Hotline Consultant for the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States. In October 2021, Dr. Gooden was appointed to the American Society of Anesthesiologists Charitable Foundation Board. Beginning in January 2022, Dr. Gooden began serving as an Assistant Editor for Anesthesia & Analgesia. In May 2022, she was appointed to serve as a consultant for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Anesthesiology and Respiratory Therapy Devices Panel, and in 2023 she has been appointed as a member of this Panel. In June 2023, Dr. Gooden was elected as an Active Member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA).
