    Biography

Dr. Mahsa Mayeli is an Associate Research Scientist at Yale School of Medicine and a physician-scientist specializing in neuroimaging and neurodegenerative disease research. Her research focuses on the application of advanced PET and MRI techniques to investigate the biological mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and related neuropsychiatric disorders. Her work integrates multimodal neuroimaging, molecular and genetic biomarkers, and environmental and social determinants of health to better understand brain aging, disease progression, and cognitive decline.

Dr. Mayeli has expertise in the analysis of large-scale longitudinal and multimodal datasets, including the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI), as well as PET, diffusion MRI, resting-state fMRI, and imaging genetics. Her research incorporates advanced statistical and computational approaches to identify imaging and biological markers associated with disease risk and progression. She is particularly interested in leveraging neuroimaging, artificial intelligence, and data-driven approaches to advance early disease detection, improve patient stratification, and ultimately translate imaging biomarkers into clinically meaningful tools.

    Overview

Dr. Mahsa Mayeli is an associate research scientist at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in brain imaging. As a physician-scientist, Dr. Mayeli studies the application of advanced PET and MRI techniques to investigate neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson's disease. Her work integrates imaging biomarkers, genetics, and environmental factors to investigate the mechanisms underlying cognitive decline in neuropsychiatric disorders. Dr. Mayeli’s expertise includes multimodal data analysis, using large-scale cohort studies such as ADNI and PPMI, and developing statistical models to examine the impact of social determinants of health on brain aging. She is passionate about leveraging neuroimaging and artificial intelligence to improve early diagnosis and patient outcomes.
