Collaborative Excellence

The Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation endeavors to promote collaborative excellence in our department through active outreach and retention of faculty, residents, and staff with a variety of perspectives and experiences. We foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and understanding for all. It is our goal to celebrate and create a supportive environment and in so doing to provide the best care for our community.

We have a long-standing commitment to making orthopaedics a more accessible field for surgeons and patients alike. Our department recruited and trained Claudia Thomas, the first African-American woman to become an orthopaedic surgeon in the United States, and we are proud to have a diverse set of leaders throughout our history. We value the importance of this history and strive to sustain our commitment to collaborative excellence as a central value.
