Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship

PCCM fellow Dr. De La Serna outlines his critical care management plans during MICU rounds

The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) Fellowship program consists of a three-year training period during which at least 18 months are dedicated to clinical training to acquire the skills to practice PCCM medicine, and 18 months of research in PCCM medicine for a total of 36 months. Fellows also have the opportunity to continue fellowship training beyond three years to obtain further research training.

Yale PCCM fellows receive exceptional training in clinical patient care, advanced pulmonary and critical care procedures, medical education, and research. Under the sponsorship of our division's T32 NIH-sponsored training grant, our fellows receive advanced training in molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, clinical epidemiology, health services research, community-based participatory research, and translational research. Our fellows may obtain advanced degrees through the Department of Medicine's PhD Investigative Medicine Program, the Masters of Public Health Program at the Yale School of Public Health, or the Masters of Health Science through the Yale University School of Medicine.

The PCCM Fellowship Program has an outstanding national and international reputation for the quality of its training and is one of the top PCCM training programs in the nation. The majority of our fellows enter careers in academic medicine, taking positions as physician scientists, medical educators, master clinicians, and program leaders at academic institutions.
