Welcome from the Chief
As section chief, Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, I would like to invite you to our section's website. As highlighted below our section is nationally and internationally recognized for its patient care, outstanding research and track record in training experts in pulmonary medicine and research.
Building on our tradition of over 40 years of excellence we are committed to our mission that includes providing the most advanced and compassionate care to patients with lung disease, performance of cutting edge and innovative research dedicated to better understanding the mechanisms of lung disease, mentoring and training the next generation of pulmonary clinicians and researchers: Students, residents, fellows and junior faculty and serving as a community resource for all topics related to lung disease. You can meet our faculty and fellows and hear what excites them about pulmonary medicine and why they chose Yale on our Youtube Channel (click here).
PCCSM contains specialized clinical programs that address the diversity of the diseases and disorders of the respiratory system. In addition to a large outpatient program out of the Winchester Chest Clinic, the section provides consultative care to all adult inpatient services and primary care in the Medical Intensive Care Units (MICU) at Yale New Haven Hospital (Y-NHH: York Street Campus and Hospital of Saint Raphael HSR Campus) and the Smilow Cancer Center. The section is also in charge of the outpatient clinic at the Veterans Administration (VA) CT Medical center at the Newington and West Haven campuses, and MICU at the West Haven campus. The Yale Sleep Center is one of the largest practices, with offices throughout CT, specialized in sleep disorders.
Our section has strong basic, translational and clinical research programs in all areas of lung disease including asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, sleep disordered breathing, Intensive care, lung infections and inflammation and genomics of lung disease. The world class research conducted at the Section is focused on the battle against morbidity and mortality secondary to lung diseases, critical illness and sleep disorders.
The PCCM fellowship training program, under the Directorship of Dr. Shyoko Honiden, continues to enjoy an outstanding national and international reputation for quality, and is among the top training programs in the Nation. Graduates of our program are highly sought after in academic medicine programs. Under the sponsorship of the Section's T32 NIH sponsored training grant, fellows receive advanced training in translational research, precision medicine, molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, statistics, study design and clinical research. We also offer fellowship programs in sleep medicine (directed by Dr. Meir Kryger) and Interventional Pulmonary Medicine (directed by Dr. Kyle Bramley). In addition to these training opportunities under the section, fellows may obtain advanced degrees through the PhD Program in Investigative Medicine and the Masters programs in Bioinformatics and Public Health as well as other exciting degree granting programs at Yale.
